An electrical malfunction forced the hot gas valve in the refrigeration system to be fully opened instead of being shut closed. The hot gas line was operating at double the temperature required, causing overheated gas to circulate throughout the system when it was supposed to be cooling off. Despite the malfunction, the chamber temperature was not affected since the redundant compressor was operational. Since the chamber temperature was not affected, the monitoring system did not alert the team.
